Last week was, quite frankly, a horror. I started with a long three days in Paris: as always it was a pleasure to spend time with colleagues and friends out there, but it was also exhausting, and I picked up a bug before I left. Being so tired when I returned to London, of course that turned into a crappy cold (which seems even more horrible when the sun is shining) and I ended up taking Friday off work so that I could sit miserably in the house, feeling sorry for myself and my aching limbs. Andrew was well occupied with the rugby yesterday so I was able to rest – although I couldn’t resist making my own pasta with my new pasta rolling toy.
I am still bunged up, but much less achey – thanks in no small part to a lovely Sunday lunch cooked by my friend Isi. Exhausted by playing with her beautiful children, I am now at least motivated to cook some healthy, restorative food for this week. I also fancy cooking some Asian food, having watched Luke Nguyen’s new show about Vietnam and the Hairy Bikers Asia recently. Porridge will be for breakfast and homemade vegetable soup for lunch every day (except Thursday, when I am celebrating “Kingsmas” with my friend Jerry). Obviously Monday has to be Irish stew for St Patrick’s day, followed by homemade Baileys ice cream. But what about the rest of the week? Well, here is my rough plan:
- Monday – Irish beef stew with colcannon, Baileys ice cream for pud
- Tuesday – chicken with ratatouille
- Wednesday – Vietnamese prawn noodles
- Thursday – sausage and potato bake
- Friday – hot smoked salmon, potato cakes, poached eggs and vinaigrette
- Saturday – salt and pepper squid
- Sunday – roast pork belly
