Week 10 – out and about again

IMG_1265Actually, it’s not me who is out and about so much this week – it’s Andrew’s turn, but there’s no point in me cooking big dinners when I am home alone otherwise, well … I’d eat them!

And poor Andrew’s not just going out partying, but he will be working quite long hours this week, so he’d probably be very unhappy to hear I was treating myself to slap up meals every night (and treating myself to G&Ts, as I did on Friday night, hence the little piccy on the left).

So the plan for this week is as follows:

  • Monday – leftover roast chicken with stirfry
  • Tuesday – I will be out with a friend at Leon in Spitalfield for a healthy(ish) dinner
  • Wednesday – I have been invited to Gaylord Indian restaurant in Fitzrovia by those lovely people at Zomato – really looking forward to it as the restaurant is going to be re-launching its evening menu, so I reckon I’ll be in for a treat
  • Thursday – hooray, a night in together! I think we’ll have something in the realms of comfort food, like chicken kievs (maybe dirty mini chicken kievs, potato waffles and baked beans!)
  • Friday – as Andrew will be working late, it will have to be something from the freezer, but I have some meals frozen so won’t starve
  • Saturday & Sunday – again, poor Andrew will be working, so meals will have to be confirmed according to his schedule

IMG_1212My meals last week ranged from the utterly hideous to the utterly amazing, with Monday night starting badly. My brother was desperate to go to Bubba Gumps – for those of you who don’t know it, it’s an American style restaurant themed from the film Forrest Gump. I knew it was a bad idea when I found it it was based in the Trocadero. It was a bad idea. I’ll leave you just one picture of the meal … you’ll have to wait for a full review once I have managed to recover. I cannot tell you what they put on the bread to turn it that colour, because I refused to eat it. I imagine it was supposed to be some kind of ‘butter’ but certainly nothing that had ever originated from a dairy farm.

IMG_1274It turned brilliant yesterday when I celebrated National Pie Week with my favourite meal EVER of pie and mash. I’ve reviewed it before here, so I won’t bore you again, but suffice to say my pie and mash was truly beautiful and I can’t wait to go back to Manzes in Chapel Market again.

The middle of the week was nice enough too – especially the Massaman duck curry from my Hairy Bikers cookbook – last week’s Cookbook Challenge. I’ll be writing the recipe as soon as I can (I am still a week behind and owe you James Martin’s lamb hotpot and apple pie – both of which were also fabulous). Andrew has chosen ‘The Greedy Italians Eat Italy’ for my next challenge. Hopefully I’ll be able to fit something in around Andrew’s work schedule. I’ll be thinking up ideas later, but the idea of a lasagne appeals, as Andrew can just dip into it as he wants.

So here’s to a week of keeping myself company. Do you have anything nice planned? I am also going to be practicing improving my food photos. I am really pleased with the picture of my G&T I took on Friday night – hence why that heads up this post. I also love the pie and mash shot, but maybe that is because I so love pie and mash! Finally, below is a photo from the gherkin last week – I went for drinks with a colleague and she (who is a talented photographer) said she thought my gherkin picture was better than hers! Praise indeed.
