Foodie Penpals – January 2015

IMG_0904Hooray, Foodie Penpals is back, after a little Christmas break. I love preparing a parcel each month to send to my penpal, and also love receiving a package of goodies chosen by them, but this month everything ran a bit late as the penpal I was assigned to didn’t get in touch with me, so I was eventually reassigned to a new penpal.

What with travelling to Paris a couple of times, I definitely wasn’t as organised as usual, but luckily I had a few goodies in the store cupboard to send to my penpal. I was paired up with Dawn in Falkirk to send a parcel to, and she told me that she really liked unusual flavours, so I knew I had the perfect items to send to her.

IMG_0785When I went on our university reunion in Bognor Regis last year, I popped into the rock shop to pick up some sweets for my colleagues and found some distinctly odd flavours of rock: cheese and tomato, chilli and chicken tikka flavours. Yes, they sound disgusting, but perfect for someone who likes ‘unusual flavours’. Poor Dawn had no idea what she had let herself in for!

I also sent her some tabasco flavoured chocolate and Mexican sweet chilli nuts (for the rest of her unusual flavours), plus a box of Betty Crocker cake mix (as she said she’s not a big baker so I thought she might find this an easy option). I also included some biscuits from a lovely farm shop in Sussex, and a pack of my homemade granola.

IMG_0784Dawn sent me a lovely email to thank me for the parcel, so I think she was pleased with everything I picked, although I am not sure how much she’ll enjoy the rock!

Emma from Bath sent me my parcel this month, and she included a couple of local treats in my parcel, including clotted cream fudge (delicious) and crackers from her local cheese shop. She also sent me a packet of curry sauce from her local Asian shop, and a packet of her favourite ‘Granny’s Garden’ tea. Thanks so  much Emma!
