Sometimes I am lucky enough to be sent products to review, or I go to events and hear about new products. It’s great fun, and I am very lucky to have this experience.
Over the last couple of months I have received the following goodies to share with you.
Unusual name? Yes, I thought so too – but it’s actually the Welsh word for ‘goodness’ which is quite lovely. This range of milkshakes are made from Welsh organic semi-skimmed milk, produced in a Welsh organic farm, no GM, and free from artificial colours and flavours. I was sent a chocolate, strawberry and banana sample to try. I don’t like banana flavour anything (Including bananas, unless they are really green and taste like nothing), but my colleague Sarah said the milkshake was delicious – not too sweet or sickly.
I did, however, gulp down the chocolate sample without a moment’s hesitation. Again, not too sweet, and tasting of real chocolate. I am not the type of person who’s ever going to go out and buy milkshakes – I prefer to drink squash or water (or, er, gin) – but if I did then Daioni would be a brand I’d go for. I am a sucker for anything Welsh anyway (Colliers cheddar, Brecon Carreg mineral water), but I like the fact that the milkshake is from a family farm too. You can find out more about them here.
Verdict – I’d buy them if I had a sudden craving for milkshake!
Nomadic dairy
For someone who doesn’t like milk, I received a very dairy items recently. The second was a Nomadic Mango Lassi, which was handy to try as it was around Diwali. I’d definitely consider buying one to accompany a home cooked Indian feast.
I also realised that I tried another of their products at the Billingsgate cookery school breakfast I attended recently. Here I had a yoghurt with granola, which I really enjoyed. Unusually (I thought) the yoghurt was very runny, and you pour it onto the granola (which is in a separate pouch). It is a very handy portable breakfast, although I don’t think it would be the healthiest option to have regularly …
Find out more about the Nomadic Dairy here. I will definitely be trying a few more of their products.
Verdict – I’d buy them!
BFree gluten free products
Not only gluten free, but also vegan: a range of bagels and wraps to meet the most intolerant foodie. When I was offered the chance to review these, I said yes despite not having any food intolerances. I’d always fancied trying gluten free bread, as you hear so much hype about issues you can face with too much gluten in your diet.
I’ve learnt more about gluten since then, which I’ll be writing about in a separate post, but for now I’ll return to my thoughts on the BFree bagels. I thought they were perfectly fine, but they don’t have the chewy, dense texture I get from my favourite Happening Bagel Bakery bagels in Finsbury Park. Not everyone is as lucky as me in having a place to buy freshly baked bagels (my freezer is always stocked with them), and when Andrew’s parents tried the BFree ones they thoroughly enjoyed them. I also gave some to my colleague Amy, who is gluten intolerant, and she thought they were delicious, and far superior to other gluten free bagels she has tried.
If you are interested in following a gluten free or vegan diet, you can find out more about the range here.
Verdict – not for me!
Have you tried any of these products? If so, what are your thoughts on them?
